The Latinx “Family-Friendly” Pride event occurred on September 16 in Dallas, Texas. The event was open to all ages and sparked a backlash from conservative watchdog groups such as Protect Texas Kids for allowing minors to an event with Hyper Sexualized merchandise and activities.
Protect Texas Kids and the New Columbia Movement protested the event while a pro-LGBTQ counter-protested. The pro-LGBTQ group would say, “Jesus was a Drag Queen,” while members of the New Columbia Movement would reply with Bible verses.

The pride event had vendors that sold hyper-sexualized merchandise and BDSM gear. Johnny Martinez Leather was one of the booths present during the pride festival.

The Event also had an ice cream stand called “Mr. Vergas,” which translates into “Mr. Cock.” The dessert vendor sold ice cream popsicles shaped in male genitalia form and churros shaped into female genitalia form.

Despite criticism from conservative watchdog groups and lawmakers, several pride events have hyper-sexualized themes still available to minors.
A recent Texas law intended to restrict drag shows from being available for minors does not include pride events that have hyper-sexualized materials.
