Granbury Republican City Council Candidate Charged with Child Porn Offenses

Hood County Sheriff's Office

In a shocking turn of events, Brad Benson, a Republican City Council candidate, volunteer firefighter, and deputy fire marshal for Granbury was arrested this past Monday morning, a day before city council elections would close. The charges leading to his direct arrest at his home in Watersedge? Two separate felony counts of child pornography. The candidate had won 26% of the votes for his seat, being a mere 16 votes away from competing in a runoff election. The response by the local GOP was immediate, and unanimously had denounced the candidate and his actions. “Crimes of this degree tear at the heart and society, we condemn them in the strongest terms… These heinous acts are antithetical to what Republicans stand for,” says a spokesperson for the Republican party. “Punishment needs to be swift and severe.” Local media reported on the raid that Monday morning, describing the scene of 30 to 40 cars (some being state troopers’, some being unmarked) showing up at the candidate’s house. Benson’s belongings and possessions had been searched by investigators, and two first-degree felony charges for possession of child pornography were made at 2PM the following afternoon. As of November 11th, Benson is still being held in Hood County jail on a $200,000 bond.
