The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), whose board members were appointed by Florida Governor Ron Desantis, has eliminated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in Disney’s governing district. This decision comes after months of Desantis and Disney battling each other over gender ideology stances in the state of Florida.

The District Administrator, Glen Gilzean, who announced the elimination of the DEI programs in the district made this statement regarding the matter :

“The so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives were advanced during the tenure of the previous board and they were illegal and simply unamerican. Our district will no longer participate in any attempt to divide us by race or advance the notion that we are not created equal. As the former head of the Central Florida Urban League, a civil rights organization, I can say definitively that our community thrives only when we work together despite our differences.”

The CFTOD, which was formerly the Reedy Creek Improvement District, was converted into its current form for the purpose of combating Disney’s radical responses to Governor Desantis’ policies. Disney became vocal about their disapproval towards Desantis’ leadership and policies when he signed House Bill 1557, which is the Parents Rights in Education Bill

The purpose of the bill was to prohibit the inclusion of instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity for kindergarten through 3rd grade curriculums. The radical left coined the name “The Don’t Say Gay Bill” in an effort to conflate parents rights in education with perceived “homophobia”, and Disney enthusiastically joined them in that stance.

Since then, Disney has been locked in a battle with Governor Desantis over parental rights in Florida and the protection of Florida’s children. Desantis has made the protection of children and parents rights a shining characteristic of his term as Governor and continues to fight against radical leftism as he often states, “Florida is where woke goes to die”.

With the death of DEI programs in the CFTOD, that’s another win under the belt of Florida conservatives. There is a question as to whether Disney will follow suit and adhere to this new standard, or if they will continue “diversity” hiring practices even though there are already laws against private companies using discriminatory hiring practices.
